Do you remember the first time you tripped, from not tying your shoe? Or falling a few times as you learned how to ride a bicycle? While growing up we have learned lessons from these and other experiences. Lessons are a part of life as breathing is a part of living. Lessons often occur out of times of disappointing results. While growing up, we have learned from these lessons, always tie your shoes and eventually how to balance on a bicycle.
Although, the lessons from childhood have served us well. At times when we venture into an unfamiliar area and things don’t go as we envision, we are quick to say: “That’s it I’m never doing that again”. At times this judgment is valid. However, more often than not, integral lessons are missed due to this rush to judgment.
Perhaps, you missed a key step, which could have made your venture a success. Who knows, you probably needed more planning and preparation prior to venturing out. Whatever the case, take this into account the next time you say “never again”. Look for the lesson that with some work, I must admit, could quite possible make your next attempt a success.
Action Steps:
Take a few minutes, review a situation that did not go according to plan and seek to find the lessons.
Here are some questions to consider:
What were the lessons to learn from that situation?
What could you have done differently?
How will you apply those lessons moving forward?
